Roy Halladay and a New Hall of Fame

Postby DOUGHBOYS » Wed Nov 08, 2017 9:50 am

We each lead different lives. Whether we know it or not.
We are married guy.
We are single guy.
We are family guy.
We are work guy.
We are fantasy guy.
We are movie guy
We are music guy.
We are car guy.
I could go on, but let's just say we all wear a lot of different hats.

When a fella like Roy Halladay passes, it effects some of those lives. It's why we get a weird feeling when any celebrity dies.
We didn't know them, although we let them into our lives.
It is just a strange kind of sadness.
Halladay has not been a part of any of our lives for years.
The world still goes on the same for us.
But won't be the same.

I don't know if Halladay gets into the Hall of Fame or not. The Hall has a habit of being elitist tools who have had bad voters since its inception.
One thing I've learned in all my years is that if something has to be voted on, it'll most likely be screwed up.
Elections, most Olympic events without a clock, name it and its been screwed up by votes.
With that in mind, I am going to do a complete 360 and propose that we have something new to vote on.
The votes would come from NFBC members.
It could be something started right here.
A Fantasy Baseball Hall of Fame.

Fantasy baseball differs from real baseball.
We could give a rat's ass if Derek Jeter was on a lot of pennant winning teams. Pennants do not win fantasy leagues for us, statistics do.
We're not looking for a long career like Jeter, or Don Sutton, or Early Wynn. We are looking for explosive seasons.
And even better, explosive seasons, encompassing more than one season.

For example, Roy Halladay may not make the Hall of Fame, but would be a shoo-in for the fantasy baseball Hall of Fame.
Alfonso Soriano would be another.
Soriano was Rickey Henderson without longevity. He had seasons we dream of.
And, he has absolutely no chance for the Hall of Fame.
But, he belongs in the Fantasy Hall.

Barry Bonds belongs.
Sure, he pissed us all off when he tried to have his name removed from fantasy teams, but we forgive his indiscretions.
Something real baseball cannot do.
We don't care if a fella took long as he wasn't caught during our season!
Most of us won't admit it, but we sorta wish the players we draft are getting a little 'help'.

We also don't care if a player is a jerk.
Ted Williams and Steve Carlton 'had' to be voted in.
Many sports writers did not vote for them because they 'didn't like them'.
We don't care!
Some of us don't like Yasiel Puig or AJ Pierzynski too.
If they lead us to a fantasy title, all is forgiven.

Hall of Fame voters are selfish. Most feel that players must be 'clean', likable, representatives of baseball.
We care about stats. That's it.
Mike Mussina
Larry Waker
Andres Galarraga
Dale Murphy
Todd Helton
Johan Santana
Ted Simmons
Fred Mcgriff
Adam Dunn
Juan Pierre

There is a long list of fellas that belong.
And if that 'other' Hall won't have you, Roy Halladay, you'll sure as Hell be invited to join ours.
Thanks for the memories.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
